What am I working on Wednesday? Week 48 - 11.28.12

This has been a very busy week, but even with all I have had to get done, I've accomplished quite a bit of sewing and quilting. I did a lot of procrastinating, since  have 4 long papers due this weekend. Last week I worked on two pieces for a Christmas swap. I got them pieced on Turkey day and on Monday night, so they were both ready to be quilted. I loaded this one on Mon. night and quilted it on Tues. night. I quilted the other one as well. I have them both trimmed and ready for binding. I will have them done before I have this baby... unless he decides he's ready tonight.

Monday night I quilted up this flower and the background fabric for the tablerunner. I did up and down lines which I haven't done in quite a while, but it turned out well. I'm excited to finish this one. I have it all cut apart and the binding on it, but have to finish the binding first before I can go further. It's a store sample.  I quilted it with King Tut and Bottomline both in maroon.

Tuesday a lady dropped these off to be quilted and I stopped at the store and picked up a top thread to match, only to realized when I got home I didn't have the color bottomline I thought I had, so they were put off until Wed. night. I quilted the first one with Sage green King Tut and a white bottomline with stippling.

I also did this one in a Sage green King Tut and Bottomline. It is done all in loops.

I love how the loops turned out and the quilting went very quickly and smoothly. I had no errors on this one.

I also pulled a couple fat quarters and made a burp cloth for the baby. I finished this one and I have another one cut out. I'm waiting for another scrap of batting to use to make the other one.

March Quilting Accomplishments

March proved to be a very productive month for me in the quilting studio! I've been getting lots done and finished up several UFO's which feels great.
I finished quilting and sewing the binding on as well as the hand sewing on the binding of the Twister tablerunner.

I made about 8 receiving blankets for Mikaela, some for daycare and some just because.

The camo one is one of my favorites.

I also made her some burp clothes for daycare.

And some other burp clothes, just because.

I made this pillowcase out of some of mom's pink ribbon fabric.

I made this pillowcase from a kit mom picked up last year on shop hop.

I made, quilted, and put the binding on this tablerunner to go with a queen size Double Irish Chain for friends.

I finished the quilting and hand stitching on the binding on the Double Irish Chain. Hope to give it to friends next weekend.

Made this mini diaper bag from scraps of fat quarters mom had made a larger schlep bag out of. It's the perfect size for short trips.


I also got about 60 Crown Royal bags cut out for my little brother's quilt. I hope to get more done this month and maybe get started on the actual top. I also spent quite a bit of time putting away the fabric I received from my mom and sorting out and organizing her UFO's. I figure there are about 30 UFO's and quite a few that aren't started, but are projects. I've finished about quite a few so far, so I'm making progress.
The only goal I didn't accomplish was another snowflake twister table topper, but I'll have to work on that later. I just wasn't feeling the motivation with the nice weather. I'm back at work and so far Mikaela is doing well at daycare and work is going good. It's nice to have a routine.
I got 91 hours in, but a lot of it was before I went to work and the few hours every evening Paul watches her so I can sew. Quilting has really been my therapy and I find so much relaxation in finishing up mom's UFO's.

What have I been working on?

The month of March has flown by and while I haven't gotten a whole lot done, I have been sewing. I've been doing a lot of baby related stuff and sewn more with the serger than anything else. I made this pillowcase out of some leftover really soft material, it was between fleece and minkee feeling. I just loved it!

Mom had this komfort case kit from Quilt Corral that she had gotten on shop hop last year, so I whipped it up since I had the serger out.

I also made some more burp clothes with the serger. Here are 5, but I probably made another 10 or so the night before and they were in the wash when the picture was taken.

I made a few more receiving blankets. There are at least 2 others I didn't get a picture of because they were washing.

The big project I worked on from the end of Feb, through March is this double irish chain quilt. It's a gift for some very special friends. It holds special meaning to me because it was the quilt top my mom made in her beginning quilt class 6 1/2 years ago when she was taking radiation for her breast cancer the first time. This class was before she started working at TSC and really was where she learned a lot about quilting. She got the top done and chose to do the harder seminole borders for the challenge. It's from Eleanor Burns book. She had it all pinned, except the backing was too small, so it got put in a tote and set away. I told her at Christmas time to get it out and I'd finish it for her. So I brought it home, unpinned it, made the backing bigger, and quilted it. I have the binding on and now just need to finish the hand work on it.



The backing fabric is kind of a marroon purple and I added the flowers to the top and bottom to make it longer.



I used leftovers to make this tablerunner. It's kind of supposed to be the double irish chain pattern.

Since Regina and Jen are going to quilt retreat next weekend, I've decided to join in the fun from a far and quilt with them. I've decided I'd like to make two quilt tops that mom had started at our retreat in Sept. They basically need to be put together, so that's my goal. The first is a Jim Shore quilt made using the BQ2 pattern. All the blocks are done and layed out and just need sewn together.

The other is a breast cancer quilt. The quilt was supposed to look like this, but she read the pattern wrong and little squares blocks are one block too short. We figured out how to resurrect the quilt, so it's layed out and just needs to be sewn together.

If I have time, which probably won't happen, since I have Little Miss to take care of, I'll work on her Loralie quilt. It's made similar to mine, but she had more fabric choices and a different way of putting it together. She has the pieced backing done and the top is just rows that need the sashing between them. I'm probably over ambitious, but it's so rewarding to finish these UFO's.

Burp Clothes

Last night when I was pulling fabric out for my hexi's project, I noticed all the flannel fat quarters I'd been saving to make burp clothes. I pulled the fabrics out and figured I'd get to them some time in the next few weeks. Tonight I wanted a quick project and decided I could probably get them done. I ironed all the fat quarters and cut out all 6. The fabrics match on the first 2, the 3rd & 4th, and the last 2. They are reversible, but wanted to show all the fabrics so you could see what I used. I picked up the pinks on the right when I was in OH as they were really cheap. The other 4 fat quarters came from a swap at a Christmas party I attended when I worked at the quilt shop. We were to make something for the next years party, only the shop closed before we had another party. I have the baby bag packed and I finished packing my bag for the hospital tonight. Looking forward to our new arrival any day....

Baby Burp Clothes

Tonight I finished up a couple burp clothes I had started a while ago. They match two baby quilts I made, so they will be gifts to go with the quilts.

This past week went totally in a different direction than I had planned. I didn't get half the quilting done that I wanted. I worked a lot of overtime at work. Paul and I went with my parents to the Tough Enough to Wear Pink Rodeo at the Stock Show on Thurs. night. We were super busy at work all weekend, so I'm tired. I tried to sew last night, but it was not what I wanted, so I tried again tonight and had much better luck.
I've had some of this fabric left over from the baby quilt I made last month, and this weekend I got the pattern for making burp cloths. I made this one and it went together really pretty quickly tonight. I needed something easy to help me relax and get back into quilting.

After the burp cloth I started working on a Schlep bag. I got the top together and have the lining about done, but I'm tired and don't want to mess up, so I need to work on it tomorrow night.
