What am I working on Wednesday? Week 48 - 11.28.12

This has been a very busy week, but even with all I have had to get done, I've accomplished quite a bit of sewing and quilting. I did a lot of procrastinating, since  have 4 long papers due this weekend. Last week I worked on two pieces for a Christmas swap. I got them pieced on Turkey day and on Monday night, so they were both ready to be quilted. I loaded this one on Mon. night and quilted it on Tues. night. I quilted the other one as well. I have them both trimmed and ready for binding. I will have them done before I have this baby... unless he decides he's ready tonight.

Monday night I quilted up this flower and the background fabric for the tablerunner. I did up and down lines which I haven't done in quite a while, but it turned out well. I'm excited to finish this one. I have it all cut apart and the binding on it, but have to finish the binding first before I can go further. It's a store sample.  I quilted it with King Tut and Bottomline both in maroon.

The backing fabric for the tablerunner is black and I quilted it with King Tut and Bottomline both in black.

Tuesday a lady dropped these off to be quilted and I stopped at the store and picked up a top thread to match, only to realized when I got home I didn't have the color bottomline I thought I had, so they were put off until Wed. night. I quilted the first one with Sage green King Tut and a white bottomline with stippling.

Here's a close up of the stippling.

I also did this one in a Sage green King Tut and Bottomline. It is done all in loops.

I love how the loops turned out and the quilting went very quickly and smoothly. I had no errors on this one.

I also pulled a couple fat quarters and made a burp cloth for the baby. I finished this one and I have another one cut out. I'm waiting for another scrap of batting to use to make the other one.

What am I Working on Wednesday? Week 47 11.21.12

This week has been dedicated to baby and preparing for his arrival. Thurs. night after my class I headed to the sewing room and quilted up the baby lone star quilt. I put the binding on it Mon. night and am working on the handwork. I hope to finish it before baby comes. The binding is the same as the 1st border fabric. Lone star quilt - Finished qi
Monday night I also worked on finishing up the baby blankets. I had these three all sewn and burped, they just needed topstitching, so I finished that. They are all ready to go!
Untitled
My favorite is this light blue one with blue minkee on the back. The color is not good in this picture as it is not teal, but rather a baby blue color.
Untitled
Last night I forced myself to make up the car seat cover. We have one that will work, but I had made a pink camo one for Mikaela and wanted to make a blue camo one for baby boy. I was able to get it done in a couple hours last night. I had the serger and sewing machine both set up and went back and forth between them.
Untitled
Since I had the serger out I also finished up the boppy pillow cover I had cut out. They are super simple to make, but even more so with the serger, so I finished it!
Untitled
I also made another serged receiving blanket and topstitched two burp clothes. I cut out 2 more burp clothes, but need a bit of batting to go in them and it was getting late. This weekend I hope to get a sample quilted and maybe a few other projects worked on while I am off for 4 days, but we're headed to my dad's again tomorrow night, so I probably won't be too productive. Have a great weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!

What am I working on this Wednesday? Week 46 11.14.12

This has been a very productive 2 weeks! I have gotten a bit more rearranging done in the bedroom and set up a temporary work space that I've been able to sew in pretty regularly. I finished up this UFO of 2 ribbon blankets. I made one with ribbons and one without. They are from a Wrenly charm pack.

I gave the ribboned one to my co-worker Jody when she brought her new baby Laura Ann in to see us yesterday. It felt great to get these made and finished!

I also finished up these three mug rugs and gave them to my co-workers. I've had them made for over a year, just hadn't put the binding on and it took me less than 2 hours to do the binding on all 3! So 2 UFO's finished and out the door! It feels awesome!

On Saturday the 3rd I taught a lone/radiant star class to a couple friends. They both got half their stars done. Since there were just the two of them, I took my machine and piecemealed this back together for my star quilt. It's all the leftovers from the quilts my mom and I made. It's so not my style, but it will be a fun back for a kids quilt. The green at the bottom probably won't be in the quilt back, but I needed enough room to attach it to the frame, so I added it on.

Last week I started to freak out about having no receiving blankets for our baby boy who is due in 4 weeks. I made about 8 baby receiving blankets on the serger and have a few that need topstitching, but I also pieced together this top. It is just an 8" wide border with mitered corners. It went together really quick... like less than hour. I have a backing ready for it, so when I get a chance I can get it on the frame.

Last night through pure determination, I was able to get my quilt frame set up! I am so excited that it set up, but I couldn't just let it set. I wanted to check tension and make sure I was having good luck, so I pulled out a UFO of table toppers/ runners that just needed quilting and the backing fabric I had for it. Mom made these 60* table runners a couple years ago, or had them cut out and I pieced them together last year, but didn't get them finished. I only finished the red ones, so these all have green backing.  I pulled out some scrap batting and set to work.
I quilted the top three with a green/gold/maroon Rainbows thread and the bottom left one with a King Tut in the same colors. I wanted to be able to show the difference in polyester and cotton thread and how they make a difference in your quilting. I have the two on the left with binding partially on, so I can show how to finish putting on the binding in the class I teach tonight.
