April Accomplishments

My April accomplishments have really made me happy. I finished up the binding on the Dangerous Mystery quilt. I hung it in my office and left it hanging this month. I love how bright and pretty it is.

My Dangerous mystery BOM quilt is my first finish of April. @gedesignsgudrun
I made a minkee blanket for Mathew. He picked out the puppy minkee.
Tonight both kids got new minkee blankets. Mathew picked the red dogs. He's ready to retire his Cars blanket. Mikaela's made it to her bed as soon as it was done.
I also made a florescent pink/bright minkee blanket for Mikaela. She got a gift card for her birthday to the Sewing Center from her uncle and she wanted a new blanket.
Mikaela's new minkee blankets. Thanks Uncle Eddie for the gift certificate to the Sewing Center. She chose the brightest fabrics for a new snuggle blanket.
This is the progress on the Sakura quilt I've been working on. It's a loose interpretation of the Seven Sisters pattern. I'm in love with how it is coming together. I already have the next round of blocks made.
Seven sisters. I think these need another rounds, so I cut out and basted more blocks today. #sakurafabric #hexies #Englishpaperpiecing
I made two little Easter pouches for my dad's wife and my sister-in-law for Easter.
Mikaela picked out this Easter fat quarter a few weeks ago, so I figured I should make something for Easter with it or it would just sit. Two Sweet pea pods made in 30 minutes ! These are so quick and easy and use 1/2 of a zipper, so I could make 2 with 1
I quilted the Glamping 5 & Dime quilt I made. I'll get it bound by the end of May.
It was a perfect day to take a picture of the quilt outside. This really shows the true colors of the quilt.
My Radiant Star quilt is completed! I spent the entire month finishing the quilt for my co-worker, the program director I work with, who is retiring.

I wanted to have the sides pop a bit, so I put magic binding on it.

I even broke out the embroidery machine and made a label for it.
20170426_103448
I pieced the backing as well.

I also finished sewing my oldest UFO. This is a table runner I started with EPP hexies back in June of 2011. I'm just so happy to finally have it done.
Finished my oldest UFO, started in June 2011. A hand sewn, English Paper Pieced table runner.
My last finish for the month came in the wee late hours. It took me 3 evenings of sewing to make this Tudor Bag for the Sew Sweetness contest. I am also going to be teaching a class on how to make it in June. It's a great bag and I love the subtle colors.
Tudor Bag finished just in time for the contest. This bag includes a home decor feather print, pleather brown accent, pink lining and zipper, with a brown top double zipper which extends past the bag on each end. #sewsweetnesspattern #sewsweetnesscontest

Our family went to Wall to experience my dad's wife join the Catholic Church on Easter Saturday night. We got a family picture, which turned out pretty good, considering it was after 11 PM.
Happy Easter from our family to yours!

Check out other stash reports at Patchwork Times.

I also had 72 hours of sewing time this month. Major parts of that came from 2 days of quilting at my dad's and a LOT of hand work. I spent several hours each week doing hand stitching and even had one day of 4 hours straight hand stitching. I am so pleased with the progress I've made on my UFO EPP projects.

March Accomplishments

March has been a good month for me. I was able to take a day off during Spring break to quilt up several quilts. I also got binding done on several others. I made my nephew Payton a bag for his birthday.

Happy Monster Truck birthday to my nephew Payton.
Both sides were so cute.
The other side of the bag I made for Payton's birthday.
I made myself a new wallet. I really love this pattern and planning to teach a class on how to make it.
My new Everyday Wallet made to match my Tudor Bag. Love the colors and the strength.
All the pockets are great.
The inside of my wallet. This was a bit challenging and I really had to think. I learned some lessons, so the next one will go smoother.
I made a former co-worker/friend a baby quilt.
Just what I needed... a night to sew with friends. As I was posting about my sewing friends today, it also happened to be Club Sew night. I finished this basketball baby quilt as we listed to a State B BB game online. I also worked on binding a baby girl
I finished up the binding on the Brighten Up snowball quilt.
Hugs and Kisses Bright baby quilt is done.
I quilted and finished the binding on this baby quilt.
A quick finish tonight after I uncovered the sewing machine. Everything is back in the closet that is going back in there. Goodnight Irene using yellow, black, white, and pink scraps. Baby playmat quilt size.
I started a new EPP handwork project. I'm using a charm pack and some background. I have all 7 "blocks" done now and am ready to piece it together. I LOVE how it's turning out, although I should be working on my other projects.
Starting a new project this week. It's called 7 sisters and is all diamonds. Inspired by Bonnie Hunter and using my Sakura charm pack. The bag @cre8tivequilter made me when I first started English Paper Piecing in 2010 is still my go to EPP travel bag.

I finished the Buckeye Beauty and a neighbor offered to buy it, so I quickly did the binding.
Three hours later Buckeye Beauty is quilted. This is a big one!
I also put a label on it.
Add the label and clip the threads, Buckeye Beauty is done!
I bought this frame at a quilt show last year and finally printed out some of my favorite quilts to put in it. I love the look!
My quilts mat finally has pictures of my favorite quilts and I hung it under the Dude shelf.
Most of the month has been spent piecing this beauty. I am making it for a retiring coworker.
The center of the radiant star quilt is done and it looks amazing! It will have a blue background with swirls of rust and green in it.
I was super excited that my center came out perfect on the 1st try!!
Look at the center... I got it right on the 1st try!!! That never happens. I'm proud of this one, too bad it's a gift for a great coworker.
I added the background in and now I just have to add borders to the top and bottom to make it longer. I hope to quilt it on Good Friday.
So excited to finish the background tonight. Now to find the rest of the extra strips and do the border. Loving the dark background!

My Stash Report is doing pretty well. Most of what I bought was for samples. I'm really excited to try StarStruck and make Amethyst Project bag and the Tudor Bag. I really need to use the fabric the kids bought last month so I can count the yardage!

Yards In this Month: 13
Yards Out this Month: 25.75
Yards In this Year: 39.25
Yards Out this Year: 68.25

Whims And Fancies Trunk Full Of Quilts 2016

Whims And Fancies Trunk Full of Quilts

As I was looking through my Flickr account, I realized just how many quilts I have made this year, so I decided to focus on those. This is in no way a comprehensive list because I realized many of them I got them quilted and didn't take a picture after binding.
My most recent finish - last night - is the Giant Starburst quilt using scraps from a previous quilt. I love the simplicity of the pattern and the colors.
Another finished quilt tonight. Giant Starburst in Green Bay Or BHSU green and yellow.
Last Friday I finished Fractions, a quilt I'll be teaching in February. I love the pattern, designer, and the fabrics are so modern.
Friction is quilted. Can I get the binding done tonight?
This fall I took a class with Gudrun Erla of GE Designs. She was a bucket list quilt designer who I wanted to take a class from. I made the Strip Burst in a baby size. This used up some of my mom's pink jelly roll.
Strip Burst finished in less than a month! #gedesigns
I made this Strip Lash quilt using the leftovers from the same quilt I made in the spring for my MIL.
Strip Lash II finished!
This is a "miniature" radiant star I made for my co-worker for Christmas. He said he liked neutrals.
Finished just in time for the fair.
I made this faux granny square table topper after teaching how to make the block.
Scrappy granny square table topper.
This coin quilt is made from scraps of all the other 5 cowgirl quilts I have made. I put my last bit of cowgirl minkee on the back.
I waited all day to post this for WIP Wednesday, only to realize it's Tuesday. The Cowgirl quilt is finished!
I tried to make a minature granny square, but I could have gone smaller. The blocks are 4.5".
2016-05-31_08-57-01
I made this BQ quilt for my friend Cindy using my mom's fabric stash of Loralie. She loves the quilt!
20160316_195901
My nephew Owen needed his big boy quilt, so I made this twin size Case IH quilt for him using a different BQ quilt pattern and adapting to my squares.
2nd quilt done this morning, for my nephew.
I made the Remington quilt as a sample for the store. It turned out great and both my brothers want it. Who knows who will get it?
Remington quilt is done !
My MIL loves blue and white, so I used my mom's blue/white/gray winter snow fabrics to make her this quueen sized strip lash quilt. I gave it to her when she got a new job that I helped her get.
The Blue Hexie quilt is done! Feeling a great sense of accomplishment in completing this one. Made entirely from mom's stash.
I've made a lot of bags, table runners, and several other quilts this year. Visit my moneikquilts flickr account to see all my projects.

ALYoF February Goal Met

My Button

This months goal should have been an easy one, since it was just a queen size binding I planned to sew on by machine. I however was short of the dark purple I wanted to use for binding, ended up going to 4 different quilt shops looking for it. I finally gave up and used the border fabric that I only had about 19" of and needed 10 strips from, per my fabric calculator calculations. I ended up cutting the binding 1 3/4", sewing it with a VERY scant quarter inch and hand sewing it down.

I figured I had all the time in the world to sew it down at work this week, since it was really cold and we had some bad weather, so I don't like to leave at lunch. Throw in a few stressful situations, lots of discussions with my boss over lunch and I only worked on it two hours. Today was a very low key day at home, so I pulled it out and worked on it while the kids played and watched movies. Paul went ice fishing, so we mostly stayed home. Tonight I finished it up, in bed, while watching a movie after the kids went to bed. I am so happy to have it done. I gave my customer 2.28.15 as the deadline for when I would finish it, so it's nice to have it completed and ready when she's ready for it.

The binding is a wee bit narrower than I normally do, but it turned out to look very nice. Only problem... I only needed 9 strips, so I could have done 2" binding...grrr! This fabric is no longer available so I didn't want to chance it. Bad lighting, but it's a gorgeous quilt. I love the colors and I hope she will as well. Linking up for my February finish for ALYoF, February Goal MET!

February Goal for ALYoF

February is already off to a busy start. This month my goal is to finish the quilt I am doing for my customer. It's a custom star quilt. She gave me free reign, only requirement... queen size. I really enjoyed making this as it gave me a chance to do a 6 color star quilt. My February goal is to get the binding on as I told her it would be done by February 28th.

Quilt 2014-12-05 008

We're experiencing a lot of changes at my full time work, so it keeps me super busy and exhausted at the end of the day. I'm doing the work of 2 right now, so constantly on the go. It makes the day go fast, but the evening seems to disappear. Since it's difficult to comment on blogs from my phone, I don't comment as much as I would like. I thought I was doing a pretty good job of keeping up with blogs, until I see there are almost 400 in my queue on bloglovin'. Hope everyone is doing well and I really miss blogging and sewing. If you're on instagram I'm moneikquilts, which I tend to update more as I can do it from my phone.

What am I Working on Wednesday? Week 47 11.21.12

This week has been dedicated to baby and preparing for his arrival. Thurs. night after my class I headed to the sewing room and quilted up the baby lone star quilt. I put the binding on it Mon. night and am working on the handwork. I hope to finish it before baby comes. The binding is the same as the 1st border fabric. Lone star quilt - Finished qi
Monday night I also worked on finishing up the baby blankets. I had these three all sewn and burped, they just needed topstitching, so I finished that. They are all ready to go!
Untitled
My favorite is this light blue one with blue minkee on the back. The color is not good in this picture as it is not teal, but rather a baby blue color.
Untitled
Last night I forced myself to make up the car seat cover. We have one that will work, but I had made a pink camo one for Mikaela and wanted to make a blue camo one for baby boy. I was able to get it done in a couple hours last night. I had the serger and sewing machine both set up and went back and forth between them.
Untitled
Since I had the serger out I also finished up the boppy pillow cover I had cut out. They are super simple to make, but even more so with the serger, so I finished it!
Untitled
I also made another serged receiving blanket and topstitched two burp clothes. I cut out 2 more burp clothes, but need a bit of batting to go in them and it was getting late. This weekend I hope to get a sample quilted and maybe a few other projects worked on while I am off for 4 days, but we're headed to my dad's again tomorrow night, so I probably won't be too productive. Have a great weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!
