Last week I saw a purple and white snow ball/nine patch quilt on another blog and fell in love with it. I've been doing the snow ball/9 patch quilt along with the girls using scraps. I'm making it with an I Spy theme and silver background. It's turning out unique and I think my niece will have fun playing with it when she gets older.
After seeing the purple one, I just couldn't get it out of my mind. I was at the Wall Quilt Guild banquet on Sat. night and saw a snow ball/9 patch that looked like there were circles around the snow balls. I didn't get a picture of it, so I wanted to make it right away so I could remember it. I had 5 friends this week who had babies and several had girls. I won't make baby quilts for all of them, but it put me in the mood to make a baby quilt for one of them. I decided to try a pink and white snow ball / 9 patch with the rings around the snowballs. I cut and cut and cut this afternoon. I used a lot of the scraps from my mom's pink quilt and just kind of let it develop. I used a variety of white prints too, so it's truly scrappy. I made 20 snowball blocks and 10 nine patches before calling it a night. I have 15 more nine patches cut out and ready to be made tomorrow night. I slapped them on my design wall as I was finishing them to see what it would look like. I think it's going to be 6x7 when I get it finished.
Here's a little closer up picture where you cna start to see the rings developing. I'm really happy with how this one is turning out and I have enough backing fabric that I'll be able to quilt it once I get it all done. I think this will be a quilt completely from scraps. If this one turns out as well as I hope, I hope to make a purple baby quilt like it for another friend.
