Fair Time!

On Tuesday of last week, mom and I met our friends Daisy, Cindy, and Darlene, who we used to work with at the quilt shop, for a night at the fair. We started with going to the midway and getting all of our favorite fair food - gyros, funnel cake, nachos, corn dog, coney dog, and smoothie. We ate under the big tent and had a chance to visit and catch up, since we haven't all gotten together in several months. Then we went to look at the quilts. Cindy had her Buggy Barn Crazy Jacks quilt entered and I still love it. She's a huge Buggy Barn fan, so I always admire her quilts since it's not my type of quilt making.

I also saw this turquoise and brown one that put me in the mood to work on mine. I really would like to get it done yet this fall.

Then we headed next door to the cream puff booth! That was the real destination, but we saved the best for last. Daisy and Cindy with their cream puffs.

Mom and I shared a snickers cream puff. It was so good, but very filling.

It was a fun night with great friends and we're definately going to have to do it again. We're hoping the next time we'll be able to do a sewing retreat together.

Wall Quilt Guild Show

Saturday afternoon I headed to Wall, where I met up with my parents. After Mass, Mom and I headed over to the Wall Quilt Guild Banquet and trunk show. We have gone several years as mom and I used to be members as did my grandma. I love this group of ladies and it's always so fun to see what they do each year. I was the lucky recipient of a new bag in the door prize drawing. It's an over sized bag so it works great for taking my things to work.

At each place setting they had little pin cushions made from English Paper piecing, as their theme this year was Grandmothers Flower garden.

This is the raffle quilt they raffled off this year. All the members worked on the EPP for it. As part of the door prizes I also won a couple sets of EPP papers.

To end the evening they showed the Quilts of Valor quilts they made and the ladies from Quilt Connection showed some of their quilts. I visited with Jen the whole drive back, so it made for a great evening.

Hill City Outdoor Quilt Show

The Hill City Outdoor Quilt Show was held last Sunday due to lots of rain in the area. The best part of the quilt show for me was the vendors, since even though I work at a quilt shop, we don't carry all of my favorite fabrics.
The best vendors were from three quilt shops out of ND. I picked up a tablerunner kit with the candy kiss fabric. I loved that the book wasn't part of the kit, since I already have it, otherwise I probably wouldn't have bought the kit. I also got a charm pack of the Gobble Gobble line and some fabric for binding to go with the panel I already have.

I picked up this cardinal kit which will make a great winter wall hanging. It's from the Birchwood Lane book, which again wasn't with the kit, so it was an affordable kit.

I also picked up this kit for a 5 yard kit. I had seen it in MN, but hadn't found the supposedly free pattern on the internet, so I picked up the kit with 5 - 1 yard cuts and the pattern. I think Paul will like this bear/batik quilt.

I had a great time at the quilt show, even though it was inside. I love seeing what all the vendors have available.

BHQG Annual Show

This weekend was the annual Black Hills Quilters Guild show. There were some truly amazing pieces of art in the show. I had to work Sat. at the show, but we closed early and all went to the awards banquet together. They had a slide show of all the quilts, so I got to see them before I got to the show. Sunday morning I went to the show and walked around saw the quilts and enjoyed the vendors.
This was by far my favorite! I love Storm at Sea and have every intention of doing one this year, maybe notlike this, but it's my inspiration.

This one reminded me of all my scrappy blogging friends.

This is the inspiration for my One Block Wonder. It was the first one I had seen in person, back in Jan. at the quilt retreat and have wanted to try it ever since. Carol was in one of my classes and she was working on the machine quilting on it.

This is similar to the wolf one I'm doing, only my background is purple. I think I've found the initiative to pull it out and work on it again. At the show they had 5 packs of aurifil thread to quilt it with, but since I didn't know if mine was the same, I passed on it.

This one was taken just for Regina. The colors were so much brighter in person.

This one was just cool! Some said it was creepy, but I thought it was inspiring. All the stations of the cross, made and quilted by a man.

This one was thread painted. Very incredible!

A Lone Star version, with a Laurel Birch Secret Jungle in it. Truly an artists masterpiece with all the sparkles on it.
