Saturday County Shoot

Saturday was the county 4-H shootout for the kids. My brother and his family came up and brought members of their club as well, so it was a busy day. My brother found a ramp for my dad's house, so as a family, we all went to load it up and take it to dad's house. While the boys installed it, I did a quick quilting job. It was National Quilting Day on Saturday, so it seemed appropriate. 

I quilted up the small Twister for Julie. It's 17" and uses brands in it. 

I also quilted up the 25" one that she wanted as well. Now I just need to get them bound. 

I quilted this wall hanging for my friend Pat. It's going to be a late birthday present, but I hadn't gotten out to quilt and I wanted to quilt it on the frame. It's 29". 

I also quilted up this purple sampler. I used these blocks several years ago to teach a class, but there isn't enough contrast in the fabrics, so it's a bad sampler. It's now quilted and I'll bind it and someone will enjoy it. 

The kids after the county shoot. They both shot their personal bests in BB Guns. Mik even qualified for State Shoot. It was a great day for shooting and spending time with family. Grandpa and Grandma came to watch and then we all went out to eat. We ended the day with supper at their house after we helped my brother load chutes to take back to their ranch. 

Owen's 1st Holy Communion

 

Sunday I was able to go to Philip, my hometown, for my nephew's first communion. It was delayed from the spring due to COVID. He's also my godson, so I especially wanted to be there. 

Dad and Ann were also able to be there. 

We took a picture with the grandkids that were there and Grandpa and Grandma. My brother and his family also took a family picture as well. 

It was a private mass for the 4 kids making their first communion. Their teacher, was Miss Ellen Schofield, my kindergarten teacher! 

 

We also went to the cemetary and visited mom's grave as well as both sets of my grandparents. 

 

A couple weeks ago my breast cancer survivor sister Heidi was in town for appointments and we had lunch together. It was so wonderful to catch up with her and visit. 

November Accomplishments

 November has been quite a productive month. I'm pleased with all the things I have accomplished. Several were samples, but having a deadline is so helpful to me. I finished the small Open Wide Tote. I'll be teaching this at The Sewing Center in December. It's a quick little bag that finishes up very nicely.

 One of the Saturday's we stayed home, so Mikaela made a bunny rabbit. She had so much fun sewing it.

 I made her a mermaid pillowcase, which is minkee and super soft.

 This is the bunny she made herself, with a bit of help with the bottom from mom.

 The Take a Stand tote is a class I'll be teaching in January. It's a great bag for sewing retreats. I made both sizes, but this is a small size.

 Our 4-H Advisor was leaving, so I made him a 4-H Clover quilt. It didn't quite turn out how I imagined, but with all the Cloverbud names, it did turn out okay.

I finished the Yellow and Blue Tudor Bag I had planned to take on my MO trip. It would have been too small, so I'm glad I didn't get it done. It is pretty awesome though. 

 My co-worker left us for a job in TX, so I made him yellow/green bags.

 My brother asked me to make his friend a quilt, so this is what I came up with.

 I finished my Sunny Lane popcorn top. It turned out okay. I wasn't crazy about the charm pack, so I'll be gifting this one. I still have to quilt it and find something to bind it with.

I made this wall hanging for my SIL for her birthday.

This is the pheasant quilt for my nephew. Each boy is getting a new "big" boy quilt. 

Family Wedding Weekend

Over Labor Day weekend we went to Brookings to my cousin's wedding. It was held at McCrory Gardens, a beautiful location. We took a good family picture.

We spent Saturday swimming and going to the Children's Museum before going to the wedding. On Sunday we went to the State Fair. The kids had so much fun. They don't remember when we went 2 years ago.

We saw the 4-H building and went on rides, looked in tractors, and ate amazing fair food.

It was a fun weekend, even if we weren't camping.

On Ringo Lake Clue #3

It's week 3 of the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt for 2017 and I'm a bit behind, but still making progress. Last week I was able to get my flying geese cut out. I'm trying Bonnie's method of using strips and cutting them with her ruler. I've never done this before and I'm excited to learn a new technique (which is why I do the mystery in the first place). I was able to get them all cut out and only 20 sewn, but I feel like that's progress.


This week I got quite a few of the bricks cut out and the end pieces cut as well. Again I'm using the Essential Triangle ruler as well as the Simple Folded Corners ruler to make these. It was a busy weekend and I'm fighting a cold, so I didn't get a chance to sew on them yet.

Last weekend we were at my brother and sister in law's to butcher pigs, so we had the grandparents watch all 6 grandkids and we went to town for the night. We had a lot of fun and a few drinks, but the town was pretty dead.

Paul and I were celebrating the SDSU Jackrabbits winning the FCS football playoff game and making it to the quarterfinals. This weekend they won that game and are now on to the semi-finals next weekend. This is a first in school history, so pretty exciting!
