My mom, Delia, fought a 6 1/2 year battle with breast cancer with courage and determination. She was a fighter and her motto was "Pray, Fight, Win!" She battled to the very end, especially after the disease came back 4 1/2 years after her remission. It moved into her brain last year at Christmas time and she took radiation treatments and continued to fight the disease. She had so many things left to do and we spent the year doing all the things we enjoyed. We attended 3 quilt retreats together, went on several shop hops, and she came with me to my dr. appoinments and I went to hers. She was my mentor, my teacher, and my best friend. We were so much alike and enjoyed so many of the same things. Mom wanted to see Mikaela, and was able to visit us in the hospital when she was born. She entered the hospital 2 days later. My dad says "She was living for Mikaela and then she knew she could go home." I truly believe she accomplished so many things in the last year and was ready to go home to be with the Lord. She prayed, fought, and now has won a spot in heaven. I know she's watching over us and protecting us.
She went home on Friday, February 11th. The rosary service is tonight and the funeral is tomorrow. When we were making arrangements we had to find a picture. My brother said, where's the picture from your blog, that's the best one of mom. It truly is one of my favorite pictures of us. She had a beautiful smile and was enjoying the day. This was about 8 months before the cancer came back.
Our community has been so supportive and for that we are truly thankful. There was a pie social benefit for mom's medical expenses held on Sunday. The outpouring of community members was such a tribute to all those who loved my mom and our family.
The funeral home website, http://www.rushfuneralhome.com/, has the full obituary and a guestbook for people to sign. The messages mean so much to our family, so feel free to leave a message or come back tomorrow and all the flower pictures will be posted as well.
Thank you to all my blogging friends for their support during this difficult time. It means the world to me to know you guys care so much. Mom was so proud of my quilting group. My mom was an amazing woman and I will miss her, but know that she's in a better place free from the pain.

Moneik,
I am so sorry for the loss of your mom. She was a very special person and very helpful in all she did.
Our prayers will continue to be with your family.
My heart goes out to you. I lost my own mother 3 years ago and I inherited her fabric and other quilting stuff. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her. I love reading your blog and I have been "reading between the lines" and I knew things couldn't be good. My thoughts are with you. Sharon
My deepest sympathies to you and your entire family for the loss of a wonderful woman. Your Mom will be in your thoughts every day. Memories are such a comfort and I know you made as many as possible together. May God bring you peace and comfort in the days ahead.
Moneik, I love you and I'm so sorry for your loss. YOU are the biggest tribute to the woman your Mom was. To have raised a daughter like you says worlds about how wonderful she was. I'm here if you need me. Text or call anytime! Hugs!
Your mom was an amazing woman. I'll never forget when I was first learning to quilt how patient she was with me, and so kind. She knew all of the tips and advice to give a new quilter. She also had a great sence of humor, and I remember several times visiting with her and she would make a funny comment or wisecrack, and before I knew it we'd be laughing! I'm praying for you and your family during this difficult time.
What a wonderful picture and a wonderful relationship you shared with your mom. I am so glad she was able to meet her granddaughter and wish you many prayers as you lay her to rest.
My heart breaks for you. You and your mom were two peas in a pod...so talented and so giving to others. I am sure her last days were full of love for you and Mikaela as well as the rest of your family. She was such a devoted mom and so proud of you. I will miss the funeral since it is the same day as District FCCLA, but I will be thinking of you.
